Is ambitiously doing nothing better than pragmatically doing something horrible? Drifter’s manic open chords, and tuned vocals set out to explore the ambivalence of morality on the path to 21st century “success.” Hex, Drifter’s juvenile counterpart, replaces questions of morality with pure nostalgia. Ambient sound effects shimmer through the record’s metal-pop-ballad style expression — a combination heavily inspired by the most intense parts of a Devil May Cry playthrough.
lyrics
Descending like a dove
Unwashed and somewhat slightly dazed
Unevenly lit in the sun
One verge of actually feeling something
Everyone is their own
Version of honest
Insanity stroking your hair
It's a lot of work to be an animal
What used to suit your affairs
Has started to feel dysfunctional
Everyone is their own
Version of honest
And everything is so fun
Back in cleverland
But the court jester
Dies all by himself
